Dove releases

Dove releases at the end of a wedding ceremony are very dramatic. If you’ve never seen one, usually two crates filled with doves are placed in front of the couple as they get ready to be introduced as man and wife for the first time. And sometimes the bride and groom are each given a dove to hold in their hands. And when the announcement is made, the crates are opened, and they release the birds, while cameras go off everywhere trying to get the money shot. At one wedding I attended this summer, the gentleman who brought the doves told me that what he brought weren’t really doves at all, but homing pigeons bred white. It’s the only way they can get the birds to return. He said that doves are wild creatures, and cannot be tamed, whereas the homing pigeon needs no training.it just comes “home” when it gets hungry, much like a cat does. I asked him if he ever loses any, and he replied “no”. Must be a pretty good business.
