When I was little, I lived in the same town as my entire extended family. Thirteen first cousins, six sets of aunts and uncles, and one pair of grandparents would get together to celebrate the holidays. One of my fondest childhood memories is my first Easter egg hunt. My aunt and uncle had a big backyard with a tree in the center, and lots of shrubbery surrounding the yard. In other words, a rich hunting ground for eggs! I remember the thrill of the hunt, and the excitement when one of my cousins found the golden egg…the one with the $100 bill inside! I also remember the wailing when my little sister (5 years old) found the booby prize…an egg which revealed nothing but a picture of my oldest boy cousin and family prankster (high school age). My family is now scattered around the globe and only get together for weddings and funerals, but we remain close, and I often think back to my childhood, and importance of preserving certain traditions.
