It’s time to prepare for the holiday gifting season with some beautiful metallic DIY gifts! We’re totally into metallics this month, so we couldn’t wait to get our hands on some silver and gold leaf to make some great Christmas presents. Take a look at our 4 metallic gift ideas, get easy instructions, and be inspired to make your own silver and gold leaf metallic gifts!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Silver leaf
- Gold leaf
- Gilding adhesive
- Foam brushes
- Paint brushes
- Tape (optional)
The way metallic foil works is, you apply adhesive to the items you’re decorating–you can cover all or part of the item, draw patterns, shapes, etc.–and then press the foil onto the adhesive.
If you have a design or shape in mind that you would like on your item, we suggest taping off sections in order to get straight lines and then applying a thin layer of gilding adhesive to your desired area with a foam brush. Otherwise, feel free to create your designs by freehand with the adhesive and foam brush. Wait for your gilding adhesive to air dry until tacky, then place the silver or gold leaf over the adhesive and apply with another foam brush.
Brush off any excess leaf with a foam brush if necessary. You can also spray with sealant to keep the foil from flaking off. And your metallic gift is complete!
