Prologue to Eric’s Blog

I am writing a wedding blog.

This is funny. It’s funny because I am inclined to think of Shaquille O’Neal when I hear the word “centerpiece” and that a “charger” is someone who uses their Mastercard for everything. It’s funny because I hate to plan anything and enjoy waiting for the last minute to do everything…until the last minute, that is, at which point I hyperventilate.

It’s also funny because for the five years before I met my girlfriend, let’s call her Faye (since that’s her name) I was one of those guys you would go on a date with, and we would completely hit it off and make jokes about our future children, and then I would simply disappear. I was one of those guys who tried online dating and posted “I am ready. Are you?”

But I wasn’t ready. Not even close.

I know people say you have to meet the right person at the right time. But I don’t think this is true. No, you have to meet the right person and then be patient enough to wait until it is the right time. I met Faye a full year before either of us was ready. Our first date was a year later. We got our first apartment together the year after that. Now I am going to ask her to marry me. And I am going to blog about it.

This is one guy’s frazzled but educational journey from bended knee to boutonniere. Wish me luck.
