Alright kids, listen up! If you’ll turn your attention to the chalkboard, today’s lesson is about how an old classroom staple is back in a big way. Bet you thought you were done with clapping erasers together, too!
This isn’t the stuffy childhood chalkboard from our schooldays. Recently, brides (and all kinds of other artsy types) are taking the poor old chalkboard and repurposing it into something sweet and chic.
It all started when several brides-to-be got creative with letting guests know where they would be seated at the wedding reception:

Some brides took the traditional chalkboard and put their own spin on it, making boards into individual escort cards or placemats or drawing maps of the reception. Other brides made unique seating pieces with the help of chalkboard paint.
Thankfully, this trend has really taken off. No longer is it simply a means to mark a guest’s seat or number a table. Brides are incorporating the humble chalkboard into nearly every aspect of their ceremonies and receptions – and making the most of this versatile statement piece.

It definitely adds some “wow” to any wedding. And brides are adding a touch of chalk to just about everything – favors are getting more fun with a personal note or a hand-written name. Guests know exactly where to go at the reception thanks to rustic directional signs. Friends and family can share treasured memories with giant chalkboard photo backdrops or cute memory boards. Our favorite? The adorable “Here comes the Bride” chalkboard sign, seen above.
