7 Warming Winter Beverages

Our post about our favorite  Halloween Cocktails was such a big hit, we knew we had to find drink recipes just as special for the winter season.  So we went ahead and found 7 of the tastiest beverages from mulled wine to spiced rum that are the perfect way to warm you up from the winter cold. Each drink is easy to make and extra delicious, so keep reading to discover these tasty drinks for yourself! And don’t forget to let us know which is your favorite!

1. Vanilla Cider

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups fresh apple cider
  • 6 ounces bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 whole nutmeg seeds
  • 1 vanilla bean (split and scraped)
  • Whipped cream
  • Honeyed walnuts

Combine the apple cider, brown sugar, nutmeg seeds, and vanilla bean in a medium saucepan. Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and add bourbon. Remove and discard any solids. Finish with whipped cream and a few honeyed walnuts.

2. Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces dark rum
  • 2-3 ounces hot water
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 pat of butter

Combine butter, sugar, and cinnamon in a mug. Mix, then pour in rum and hot water. Stir to finish.

3. Mulled Wine

Ingredients:

  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup honey or sugar

Combine all of the ingredients in a non-aluminum saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat and then reduce the heat to medium-low. Let simmer for an additional 15 minutes. Strain, and serve warm.

4. Butterscotch Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 6 ounces coffee
  • 2 pinches of cinnamon
  • 1 ounce butterscotch schnapps
  • 1 ounce heavy whipping cream or half and half
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream

First, brew the coffee and pour it into a mug. Add your cinnamon, butterscotch schnapps, heavy whipping cream, and caramel sauce. Stir all together and top with whipped cream. Add more cinnamon and caramel sauce if you wish.

5. Turmeric Chai Latte

Ingredients:

Chai spice blend:
  • 3 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
Turmeric chai latte
  • 1 shot fresh brewed espresso
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ teaspoon chai spice blend
  • Turmeric to taste

First, make the chai spice blend by combining the cardamom, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Set to the side, and steam the milk. Next, whisk the espresso, steamed milk, and ¼ teaspoon of the chai spice mixture together. Sprinkle with turmeric on top.

6. Spicy Hot Chocolate Mocha

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
Toppings
  • Whipped Cream
  • Marshmallows
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Caramel Syrup

Place all ingredients (aside from the toppings) in a medium-sized saucepan and cook over medium-low heat. Whisk in the saucepan until hot. Pour mixture into a mug and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate chips, chocolate syurp, and caramel syurp.

 7. Pumpkin Spiced Coconut Latte

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
  • 2 shots of espresso or coffee
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice

Whisk the coconut milk, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and honey together. Heat gently on the stovetop. Combine the mixture with brewed espresso in a mug and top with more pumpkin pie spice.
