One Man’s Trash Is Another One’s DIY Oyster Shell Trinket Dish

You may have heard the saying that one man’s trash is another one’s treasure… and in this case that treasure is a trinket dish for your jewelry! The so-called “trash?” An oyster shell. With oysters on our mind thanks to National Oyster Day in early August (seriously, look it up!), we realized that a prettied up shell would make a perfect trinket dish for holding jewelry. You won’t believe how easy these are to make. Keep reading to see how we made our idea come to life!

Here’s what you’ll need

  • Oyster shell
  • Acrylic paint (we liked metallic silver)
  • Paintbrush

Your first step is to make sure your oyster shell is clean. Wash the shell, and make sure it’s completely dry before painting. Next, paint a first coat on the inside (the white part of the shell). Let the paint dry, and apply more coats as needed. Once your last coat is dry, you’re ready to add in your trinkets!

Who knew an oyster shell could be so functional? Try keeping this trinket dish in your room, or use for your beach wedding accessories for extra pretty photos. And please let us know if you decide to give this DIY a try. We would love to hear about and see your creations!
